Project ChildSafe Quarterly Safety Message

Spring 2004

With turkey hunting season underway in many states, as well as many organized outdoor target-shooting leagues gearing up for spring matches, enthusiasts are dusting off their firearms to start preseason patterning and practice. This is an appropriate time for firearms owners to be mindful of the important principles associated with safe handling and storage. Read “Firearms Responsibility in the Home,” an important safety brochure from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, administrator of Project ChildSafe. Be sure to review the “safe home checklist” and “safety tips” listed in the brochure. Discuss the “firearms responsibility contract” with your children and other members of your household. Whether you own firearms for sport or for home security, it’s important to take steps to prevent a loaded gun from falling into the hands of a child or unauthorized person. Review the Project ChildSafe safety brochure for tips on safe storage. And remember to store firearms separately from your ammunition.

Send this safety message to educate friends and family about the safe and responsible ownership of firearms.
