Project ChildSafe Quarterly Safety Message

Fall 2005

With hunting seasons now in full swing, and with more people handling firearms than any other time of year, safety is paramount. Following simple safety rules can help prevent firearm accidents. Review safe handling and storage practices by watching Firearms Safety Depends On You (requires Windows Media Player 8.0+ and a high-speed connection; video is 13 min. in length.), an educational video developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, administrator of Project ChildSafe. The video covers basic safety rules and responsibilities that all firearm owners should understand, such as storing ammunition in a separate location, away from firearms. Also, after hunting or target shooting, make sure firearms are returned unloaded to a secure storage location. Consider a gun lock. Learn more about locks and other safety devices and precautions with a free Project Childsafe firearm safety kit. Find out where to obtain a kit at www.projectchildsafe.org.
